Judy and Stuart Spence Residence, South Pasadena, California 1989-1991

The Spences had an existing Spanish Mission style house which they wanted to remodel and expand to provide for their growing art collection and activity spaces for their children. The addition is built around an existing sycamore tree providing a central exterior courtyard. The size and shape of the main living area responds to the Spence's desire to 'live' with their art collection and was created based on the requirements of the individual works of art.
